Conrad inaugurates research centre on zoonotic diseases

Shillong, Dec 19: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the zoonotic vector borne diseases Research and Training centre at Indian Institute of Public Health, Pasteur Hill Shillong .- the first in the North East. The launch was also a part of a seminar on One Health.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that research was key and the information collected would help assess the policy makers to assess, make policy and take preventive steps.

He said an eco-system should be created to take the institute to a new level, create opportunity, create jobs and research opportunities. He said the government is also examining the proposal to upgrade the IIPH. He said he looks forward to working more closely with the IIPH.

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh also stressed on the need of research-based policies for optimum positive impact. Citing the illness of her husband caused by scrub thypus, she said that it took them 15 days to find out and treat him and wondered what would the case be of people living in rural areas.
