Shillong, Dec 18: Mawtawar SC had to draw on all their skill and determination to overcome a one goal deficit to win 2-1 in the second semifinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2023 against Nongrah SC at First Ground, Polo, here on Monday.
Mawtawar will thus be promoted to next season’s First Division and have qualified for this year’s final, which will be against Pohkseh SC, who won the first semifinal on Saturday.
Nongrah had taken the early lead through Kerionald Pyngrope (6’). However, they weren’t able to hold on to it going into the break as Elnathan Wahlang (41’) equalised for Pohkseh with his fifth goal of the tournament.
Fredrick Lyngdoh (85’) then made sure the match ended in regulation time with a late winner.
Mawtawar had reached the last-four stage by finishing on top of Group A with four wins, one draw and one defeat. Nongrah also had the same results but were second in Group B behind undefeated Pohkseh.
The final will take place Thursday at the same venue, with kick-off being at 1:30PM.
