SHILLONG, Dec 21: In a move that can be considered constructive on the part of the MDA Government, tourism expert Alan West Kharkongor was appointed as the Director of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
Kharkongor’s accommodation at the MTDC is a component of the MDA Government’s political appointment with ‘B’ status facilities as indicated by the Finance department.
Kharkongor is a seasoned tourism professional, who has worked to promote Tourism in the state since its nascent stage. His appointment is seen as appropriate move made by the government to bolster and enhance the MTDC’s operations.
Kharkongor, a member of the NPP who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly elections from Sohra, is also the Chairman of the Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum (MRTF), a member of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) and also adjunct professor in the Department of Tourism at Martin Luther University.
