It is with a deep sense of sadness and loss that we bid our final farewell to you, dear Ronald Syiem.
What you have left behind is a smiling face that will always be etched in our memories forever. You have been a dear colleague and you have worked hard as a reporter to tell stories to the world about what goes on in West Khasi Hills district.
You never once shared with us about your ailment. On speaking to your relatives we learned that you did not share about your ailment with them too and always told them never to worry until the very end. That is because you did not wish to burden them with worries. What a kind heart you have indeed.
Whenever we spoke to you, your response was always gentle and your voice carried your smile. We also learned that your son would be celebrating his 4th birthday today December 24 and that you had made all plans to celebrate the day in a big way and invited all your relatives.
But man proposes and God disposes. You have lived well and served the profession you have chosen to the best of your ability.
We have known you for the past 15 years and have had no cause to regret our association with you. On the contrary, we have always benefitted from your ability to cull out news that matters.
On this sad day we offer our deepest condolences to your dear parents who are in great sorrow for having lost a son, your dear wife and son, and your brothers and sisters who will all miss your presence and your smile. We are all on this earth for a limited period. Life and death is decided by God the creator. While we sorrow at the loss of a colleague we also pray that God gives your family members, especially your dear wife and little son the strength to bear the loss and accept it as His holy will. Walk lightly into the other world dear Ronald; you have left behind beautiful memories we will always cherish.
Your Colleagues at The Shillong Times
