Shillong, Dec 23: The UDP leadership on Saturday said that they are yet to discuss the decision against party MDC, Lambor Malngiang.
It may be mentioned that Malngiang had extended his support to the NPP-led EC in the KHADC.
UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said that the party is yet to discuss the matter, and as the party general secretary, he had spoken to Malngiang to know his mind.
According to him, Malngiang insisted that he still very much part of the UDP.
Mawthoh further said that he has requested the Nongkrem MDC to issue a formal statement to the media to clarify his position on the matter.
“As the party we are going to meet shortly since we have received a letter from the Party Parliamentary leader in the KHADC, Titosstarwell Chyne to initiate disciplinary action against Malngiang,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UDP MDC from Nongkrem was not available for comment since his mobile was switched off.
Earlier, Chyne had said that he sent a letter to the party and most likely after the holiday season is over the party leadership is going to meet to discuss the matter.
To a question, Chyne said that he is not aware that more MDCs are going to support the present EC.
“There are eight MDCs of the UDP. I have not heard anything (that they will also support the NPP-led EC). Similarly, I have not heard that there is any move by the HSPDP MDC Martle Mukhim, who is also co-chairman of RDA, to come out and support the present EC,” he said while adding that the independent Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor is still very much part of the opposition bench.
He said UDP MDC Balajied Ranee was firm in supporting the Lineage Amendment Bill because he was vocal on the issue relating to the practice of ‘Shaw Bhoi’. “He (Ranee) was supporting the Bill, not the EC,” he said.
“However, you can ask Balajied whether he has any intention to join other parties,” he added.
