Retired DHS Rita Tariang joins BJP

SHILLONG, Dec 28: As 2024 parliamentarian elections beckon closer, there has been a new political development in the state with retired DHS Dr Rita Tariang on Thursday formally joining the Meghalaya unit of the BJP.
Her entry into the party comes soon after BJP top leader, AL Hek, suggested that the party should field a woman candidate from Shillong for the Lok Sabha polls.
She was welcomed into the party fold by State BJP president Rikman G Momin, in the presence of other party leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Momin said that Tariang’s immense administrative experience will help the party to serve the people of the state in a better way.
In regard with what prompted her decision to join BJP, Tariang said that she joined the party seeing its works concerning the uplifting of the poor and needy.
“BJP offers me a platform wherein I can continue to serve the people of Meghalaya even after my retirement,” she added.
