SHILLONG, Dec 30: The UDP on Saturday distanced itself from the statement made by party general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh supporting the introduction of goods trains in the state.
UDP working president, Titosstarwell Chyne made it clear that Mawthoh had made the statement in his personal capacity and it cannot be taken as the party’s official stand.
Chyne also clarified that the party is yet to discuss the issue of railways in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
“We will discuss before announcing our official stand on the matter,” he said.
The UDP working president said his party supports the need for a comprehensive mechanism to deal with the problem of influx before introducing railways.
