SHILLONG, Dec 30: After remaining stalled for many years, the work on the package 1 of the Shillong-Dawki Road project from Rilbong to Upper Shillong has finally started.
An NHIDCL official said the designated contractor has started the earth cutting work in Upper Shillong area. The work will gather steam from the second or third week of January and the four-lane road would take around two years to complete, the official added.
The 11.60-km stretch of the road will be executed by New India Contractors and BCC (joint venture) at a cost of Rs 351 crore.
The Shillong-Dawki Road project has been divided into five packages of which three packages are yet to be re-awarded after the previous contractors abandoned the project for various reasons.
