Govt upgrades four PHCs in Khasi Hills

SHILLONG, Jan 2: The state government has upgraded four Public Health Centres (PHCs) in different districts of Khasi Hills, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in his post on Tuesday.
The upgrade included the installation of solar power and the provision of various medical equipment.
The upgraded PHCs are Jongksha, Wahsherkhmut, Mawkynrew, and Jatah PHCs.
The chief minister posted on his X page, ‘Before the start of this #NewYear, 4 more PHCs have been upgraded with solar power and various medical equipments in different districts of Khasi Hills through collaboration between state government and @GHE_Connect”.
Improved healthcare system has been the demand from various quarters of the state.
The state Assembly had also witnessed legislators cutting across party lines stressing the need to improve the health facilities in the state starting from upgrading the existing health centres and PHCs to CHCs.
A list of 118 proposals from various members of the House and other quarters was received by the health department and the health officials were asked to look into these proposals and rationalise.
In 2020, the state government also decided to invest Rs 75 crore for the renovation of 186 PHCs and CHCs some of which have not been renovated for over 25 years.
