SHILLONG, Jan 2: The Opposition Congress has criticised the NPP-led MDA coalition partners for putting up a show of rivalry before the elections and working hand-in-gloves post-poll against the interest of the people.
“The NPP, UDP, and BJP fight separately but get together after the elections. Congress is the only party that fights for the interest of the people not just in the state but the entire country,” Shillong MP and MPCC chief, Vincent H Pala said.
He said the partners of the MDA coalition are not serious about fighting the Lok Sabha polls and are interested only about maintaining their vote share.
Stating that all political parties are fighting elections for their survival, Pala said: “The UDP, BJP, and NPP want to put up a candidate each just to see whether the voters are with them.” “They fight elections for the sake of elections unlike Congress,” he added.
The MPCC chief said whether or not Rahul Gandhi visits Shillong during his Bharat Nyay Yatra would be made known after a meeting of all the state presidents and states in charge with the party high command in New Delhi on January 4.
Asked if he thinks the Yatra would help to unite the states and people of the country, the MPCC president said politics is all about connecting dots and Gandhi is travelling to the nooks and corners of India in a bid to join these dots.
He said the Yatra would not only help strengthen the country but also help them understand the problems of the people from the various strata of the society, enable them to frame people-friendly policies, and provide people-friendly governance.
