Guwahati, Jan 5: Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh has, in a New Year message to his colleagues in the state police force, urged them to re-dedicate themselves to provide citizens an improved policing experience.

“The New Year opens an opportunity to write a fresh chapter in our book towards service to the people of Assam. Let us re-dedicate ourselves to provide the people an improved policing experience,” Singh stated in his New Year missive.

“The focus has to be on cyber crimes, especially cyber financial frauds, that affect a large number of people in Assam, and other parts of the country and the world. The misuse of financial institutions, mobile and internet platforms towards such cyber crimes has to be handled with a focused approach,” he stated.

“The scourge of road traffic accidents and comprehensive improvement in traffic movement has to be addressed holistically with Assam Police being a major stakeholder and a change agent,” the DGP stated.

Singh also called for further improvement in investigation to enhance the rate of chargesheets and convictions, making full use of the potential of forensics, as envisaged in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita. “This would lead to a qualitative change in the lives of the people of Assam,” he added.

While setting the goals, the DGP also reminded his colleagues of the zero-tolerance policy within the force.

“While we reiterate our focus areas, we need not forget the areas that we have to have zero tolerance among Assam Police personnel. The police offices and police stations should continue to be temples for police personnel and safest refuge for citizens, especially women, children and the marginalised sections of society. Any kind of sexual and financial misconduct in such pious premises would continue to be unacceptable,” he asserted.

Singh also warned the police personnel against being inebriated while on duty or while wearing uniform, stating that such conduct would be unacceptable.

The DGP further urged his colleagues to improve their conduct and behaviour towards junior colleagues and with the general public, giving them respect and treating them with empathy.
