Shillong, Jan 4: The Shillong Cricket League 3rd Division kicked off with a riveting encounter between Power Grid and Inningstar XI. After winning the toss, Inningstar XI opted to bat first, setting a target of 140 runs for Power Grid.
Akash Kumar displayed commendable batting prowess, scoring 56 runs off 54 balls, while Rounak Das contributed 29 runs off 38 balls. However, Power Grid’s bowlers, led by Yogendra Singh’s exceptional performance (3 wickets for 13 runs in 4 overs), restricted Inningstar XI to 139/4 in 20 overs.
In response, Power Grid showcased resilience, reaching the target with five wickets to spare in just 16 overs. Kunwardhrub led the batting charge with 45 runs off 23 balls, securing a victory for Power Grid. Abhishek Kumar Yadav stood out among the bowlers, claiming 1 wicket for 18 runs in 2 overs. Yogendra Singh’s all-around brilliance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match title.
The second match of the day witnessed a clash between Sawmer and Young Langsning, where Sawmer won the toss and elected to field first.
Young Langsning posted a total of 132/8 in 20 overs, with Sylvister Wanniang top-scoring with 52 runs off 39 balls. Jamsing Thawmuit led Sawmer’s bowling attack, claiming 3 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs.
In reply, Sawmer’s batting effort fell short as they managed 120/6 in 20 overs. Poilangson Thawmuit contributed 28 runs off 26 balls, but Young Langsning’s bowlers, especially Gavin Nongkynrih (3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs), proved decisive.
Young Langsning emerged victorious by 12 runs, and Sylvister Wanniang’s impressive innings earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
