Woman killed in Ri-Bhoi road mishap; driver flees

Nongpoh, Jan 8: A 37-year-old woman died in a fatal accident when a trailer carrying galvanized steel rods, en route from Guwahati to Shillong capsized at Umtrew Junction in Ri Bhoi on Monday evening.
It was informed that the driver of the vehicle fled from the scene.
The victim has been identified as Cleris Nongsiej, a health department employee and a resident of Umtrew village. She leaves behind six children. The victim was returning home after attending a relative’s funeral when the incident occurred.
The victim’s body was shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for further necessary action. Investigations are underway to locate the absconding driver and determine the circumstances leading to the unfortunate accident.
