Shillong, January 11: Following Maharashtra assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s declaration that the Eknath Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena was the authentic political entity during the emergence of rival groups in June 2022, the Chief Minister extended congratulations to the “Shiv Sainiks” in the state.

In a post on X in the regional language, Eknath Shinde expressed gratitude to the Shiv Sainiks, emphasizing the victory of democracy and the endorsement of the alliance’s voters from 2019. The Chief Minister lauded the triumph as proof of being true heirs to the Hindutva ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray and Dharmaveer Anand Dighe.

India Today reported that characterizing the outcome as a win for the Indian constitution and democracy, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of majority rule in a democratic setup. He declared that the Election Commission officially handed over the Shiv Sena to them, denouncing the tendency to form governments through alliances as detrimental to democracy.

Shinde’s post underscored the progressive nature of the result, emphasizing that political parties should be run democratically, challenging the notion of a party as private property. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with a decision that holds political leaders accountable and teaches a lesson to those who compromise principles for power.

He wrote that the the verdict, according to the Chief Minister, respects the electorate’s vote and upholds its discretion in a democracy, delivering a decisive blow to leaders involved in breaking alliances, forming unnatural coalitions, and betraying trust.
