SHILLONG, Jan 10: The state government will conduct a study with the aim of regulating the fee structure of schools and colleges in the state which are supported by the government.
“We will do a study on this. We are thinking of regulating the fee structure from minimum to maximum of all colleges, schools and institutions being supported by the government,” said Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday.
The Education minister said, “We are doing all exercises. We may constitute and regulate the fee structure. I have been told that there are many schools and colleges, although government grant is availed, they are charging huge fees, which is a burden on the students”.
“I have received many representations from various organisations, student communities and parents. It may be the time now to discuss well and decide,” Sangma added.
On the status of the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP), the minister said, “The exercise of finalising the state curriculum framework is in the process. We have even set up a committee to work on this”.
Suggestions and views will be sought from experts on the kind of curriculum and syllabus for the state. “We will also seek views of the general public, experts, academicians from within and outside the state”.
