Shillong, January 11: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has called upon the Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at YouTube India to appear in person on January 15. This request includes the submission of a list of channels raising apprehensions regarding inappropriate content featuring mothers and sons.
As per India Today, in a letter directed to Mira Chatt, YouTube’s Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy in India, Priyank Kanoongo, the chief of NCPCR, highlighted the commission’s awareness of a troubling trend on YouTube channels that involve challenges depicting potentially indecent acts between mothers and sons. These ‘challenge videos,’ as per sources, showcase inappropriate actions like kisses between mothers and adolescent sons.
In a statement to India Today TV, Kanoongo asserted that several challenge videos on YouTube violate the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. He emphasized that YouTube must address this issue, stating, “Offenders will be subject to legal consequences. The commercialization of such videos is comparable to selling explicit content. Any platform featuring videos involving the sexual abuse of children will face legal action, potentially leading to imprisonment.”
