Mawkyrwat, Jan 17: In a riveting Quarter-Final match at Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium, Mawlangwir, Golden Lion Football Club secured their place in the Semi-Finals of the Mawlangwir Invitation Football Tournament 2023-24, organized by Mawlangwir Sports Club. The thrilling encounter saw Golden Lion FC emerging victorious against Langsning Football Club with a 1-0 scoreline.
The Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium witnessed a packed house as thousands of spectators from Mawkyrwat and the broader South West Khasi Hills District gathered to witness the intense battle. Despite Langsning FC dominating ball possession and having several opportunities to score, hitting the post multiple times, they were unable to find the back of the net.The decisive moment came in the 34th minute when Golden Lion’s Hikai Bareh scored the lone goal through a freekick. This goal proved to be the match-winner as Langsning FC couldn’t capitalize on their chances. Hikai Bareh’s stellar performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award.Looking ahead, Golden Lion FC is set to face either Aphuyemi FC or Niaw Wasa FC in the Semi-Final. The two teams will clash in the 4th Quarter Final match scheduled for February 10, 2024, at Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium.Meanwhile, the 2nd Quarter Final match is slated for February 2, 2024, featuring MLP FC, Shillong, and KMC FC, Sonapur. The victor of this match will go on to face Shillong Lajong FC in the Semi-Final, promising more high-stakes football action in the upcoming rounds of the tournament.
