Two 12-wheeler trucks collide in Ri-Bhoi; 1 hurt

NONGPOH, Jan 17: A serious accident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 12:30 pm on the Umsning Bypass road of National Highway 6 in Ri Bhoi District, involving two 12-wheeler trucks loaded with chicken feed and clinker.
The collision transpired between a 12-wheeler truck, bearing registration number (AS 01 NC 8892), en route from Guwahati to Tripura, and another 12-wheeler truck (AS 01 JC 7251), loaded with clinker, proceeding from Shillong towards Guwahati.
The incident unfolded when the driver of one of the trucks bearing registration number AS01 JC7251, allegedly speeding, lost control as the vehicles approached Umsning Bypass.
Subsequently, the truck crossed the divider and collided with the other truck.
The impact of the collision left the driver of the AS01JC7251 truck trapped inside the cabin.
Police personnel responded swiftly, deploying a recovery van to extract the driver. After a meticulous operation lasting few hours, the driver was successfully rescued.
The injured driver was shifted to NEIGRIHMS from Umsning Community Health Center (CHC).
