Dorbar Urkaliar claims to be legitimate
By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Jan 22: The office of the Dorbar Shnong Urkaliar, Mylliem Syiemship, on Monday clarified that the Urkaliar Dorbar is well recognised by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
This comes following a report published in this paper which mentioned that the district council is unaware about the formation of the Dorbar Urkaliar.
The Dorbar has informed that a sanad (mandate to operate) dated May 23, 2014, was issued to them by the office of the Syiem of Mylliem.
It also said that a letter date September 12, 2019, was issued by the Executive Committee of the KHADC, to conduct an inspection in the area under the Dorbar, which “proves that this locality has been recognised by the office of the KHADC.”
It added that a certificate of jurisdiction was issued by the KHADC in 2019 stating that Urkaliar locality under Mylliem Syiemship falls within the jurisdiction of the KHADC.
With regard to a disputed land where a cleaning drive was conducted by the Operation Clean-Up (OCU) team, the Urkaliar Dorbar said that “a collective effort of the district administration, the KHADC, the OCU team and the Dorbar should carefully address this portion so that there should not be any contempt of court in the ongoing court case.”
The Dorbar said that the jurisdiction of the said land was given only for promotion of sports activities and religious gatherings.
