Laitumkhrah hawkers to be shifted by Feb 15

SHILLONG, Jan 22: As many as 89 vendors sitting along the Laitumkhrah police point to Laitumkhrah Beat House will be relocated to Veronica Lane falling within the locality by February 10-15.
The decision was taken following a joint meeting between the government, municipal board, vendors’ body and Dorbar Shnong Pyllun Laitumkhrah.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Cabinet Minister and local legislator, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said that they are ready with the entire place and necessary surveys have been conducted as per the vendors’ policy.
“We will shortly relocate them in the interest of the public and by February 10-15, we will issue the notice for relocation after which we expect that this will be a hawker-free zone,” the lcoal legislator said.
It was also informed that the Veronica Lane will be free from traffic for a certain period of the day.
According to Lyngdoh, the government also has plans of giving a room to the hawkers besides the facility of toilet for the hawkers.
She also said that the government is going as per the National Vendors Policy, adding that she does not anticipate any problems in this move.
