EGH police quells panic caused by suspicious object

Tura, Jan 31: East Garo Hills Police on Tuesday acted quickly to quell panic after a suspicious object was found near the village of Asiragre under Williamnagar Police Station in the district.
The incident took place at about 9 PM on Tuesday.
As per reports, information had been received at the Bolkinggre OGC that one suspicious object was seen after which an inquiry that included the Bomb Disposal Squad was rushed to the spot.
During the inquiry it was learnt that on Jan 29 one person, identified as Silnang R Marak of the same village had found the device which is apparently of French origin and stated ‘Meteomodem – PS 20 along with a red colour parachute which he kept in his house.
The item was duly seized by the police for further action.
According to a web search, the object is in reality a wind measurement instrument.
