SHILLONG, Feb 4: The UDP is confident of a good outing in the Lok Sabha polls based on its past records and the party’s strong ground presence.
“It is not like previous times when you could predict the outcome. Because of the presence of many political parties this time there is so much of fracture. It is difficult to make the right projection but as far as our party is concerned we are in a good position,” UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said on Sunday.
He reminded that the party has a strong foothold in the various constituencies in Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
“Look at the vote share we got in the last elections and the number of MLAs we have in addition to the two HSPDP MLAs, plus our MDCs. The UDP has been in the state for a long time and has its roots well entrenched in different constituencies,” Mawthoh said.
The UDP and the HSPDP, under the banner of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), have fielded Robert June Kharjarin as their common candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
