Innings Star beat Sportive; Golflink maul New Warriors

Shillong, Feb 5: The Shillong Cricket League 2nd Division 2024 witnessed two gripping matches on Monday. In the first match, Innings Star faced off against Sportive Junior.
Put in to bat first, Sportive Junior managed to put up a commanding 188/5 in 20 overs. Bappan Dutta and Digbijoy Roy were the top performers for Sportive Junior with the bat scoring 73 (in 52 balls) and 39 (in 32 balls) respectively.
Joydeep Ghosh was the pick of the bowlers with his spell of 1/7 in 4 overs. Lukhu K Anal also made a significant impact, bowling 4 overs, giving away 32 runs, and securing 1 wicket.
Innings Star, in reply, overhauled the target by scoring 190/5 in 18.5 overs. Deepak Purkayastha top scored, smashing 63 runs in 48 balls, while Lukhu K Anal contributed with valuable 26 runs in 15 balls.
Rahul Kuri was the best bowler for Sportive Junior, ending with match figures of 3/47 in his 4 overs. Kishan Das also managed to pick 2 crucial wickets, giving away 41 runs, in his 4 overs.
Innings Star emerged victorious by 5 wickets, with Deepak Purkayastha named the Player of the Match for his smashing innings of 63 and also claiming 1 wicket.
In the second match, Golflinks XI Stars took on New Warriors CC.
New Warriors elected to field after winning the toss and restricted Golflinks XI Stars to 158/4 wickets in 20 overs. Ankit Singh Rathor shone with the bat, scoring a patient 43 runs in 40 balls, while Abid Khan was the second highest run getter for the team with 28 runs in 11 balls.
The bowling efforts of Sanjiv Ghosh and Prasanjit Chanda for New Warriors CC were noteworthy, with Sanjiv Ghosh bowling 4 overs, giving away 39 runs, and taking 2 wickets, and Prasanjit Chanda ending with match figures of 1/34 in 4 overs.
In response, New Warriors failed to chase down the target, scoring 46/10 wickets in 10.1 overs. Lakhan Das was the only batter to reach double figures, scoring 24 runs in 25 balls.
Md. Ajharuddin and Abid Khan were instrumental in the bowling department for Golflinks XI Stars, with Md. Ajharuddin delivering 2.1 overs, giving away 6 runs and taking 5 wickets, including a hat-trick, and Abid Khan bowling 3 overs, conceding 9 runs while claiming 2 wickets.
Golflinks XI Stars won the contest by 112 runs, and Md. Ajharuddin was named the Player of the Match.
