SHILLONG, Feb 6: The lack of coordination between the government departments can be attributed to the looming darkness in the capital city as some lights are managed by the MeECL and some by the urban affairs department of the state.
It has been noted several times that street lights that once go kaput, it takes ages for the concerned departments to repair them.
Some residents say that the only areas where lights are being maintained well are the Secretariat and Camel Back road area which houses the residence of senior Government officials and Ministers.
“Surprisingly the Government here cannot even manage street lights,” a resident said
The resident also brought to the notice that people and even tourists would not feel safe at all to come out at night times as many of the areas remain completely under darkness.
Some also blamed the government’s lethargic approach in maintaining street lights as they gave the example of a Fire brigade junction that has a high mast but the light is yet to function even after a couple of years since the junction was renovated.
