SHILLONG, Feb 7: Even as the National People’s Party (NPP) is preparing its Lok Sabha election manifesto, its Shillong candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh has outlined her plans for the polls.
She told reporters on Wednesday that she will travel the length and breadth of 36 Assembly constituencies falling under the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, find out the problems being faced by people and work towards finding a solution.
“I am a hard-working person. You will continue to see me everywhere. As they say, this is my modus operandi,” Lyngdoh, who is also a Cabinet minister, said.
“I do not talk to people from a distance. I am there and I will continue to be a part of governance. It does not mean that an MP will operate only in Delhi. The MP will also advise the state government on matters brought to his or her attention,” she said.
Stating that the NPP is in the process of coming up with its manifesto and she is awaiting it, Lyngdoh said, “Having launched my campaign, I also have some personal things which I tried to communicate to groups of individuals I met in the last little over one month.”
She said first and foremost, she will work hard. She said she will visit places across the constituency to try and comprehend the dynamics of issues being discussed on the ground.
On the development front, Lyngdoh said she will try to figure out the requirements of people across the Shillong Lok Sabha seat and if elected, she will have a work schedule towards this end. She said she has covered around 1,000 km during her poll campaign and she learnt about a public perception that an MP is a “distant person”.
“I want to dispel this myth,” she said.
She said if the MP is from the ruling side, it becomes easier for people to communicate accordingly. She was hopeful the NPP manifesto committee would finish its work soon.
