Union minister inaugurates TCH ATF virtually

Tura, Feb 8: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar on Thursday also virtually inaugurated the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) of the Tura Civil Hospital along with 41 other similar treatment facilities across different states in India.

The inauguration took place in the august presence of Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, A Narayanaswamy, Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, Pratima Bhoumik and other dignitaries.

In Tura, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Jagdish Chelani, Superintendent of Police, WGH Abraham T Sangma, PMU Coordinator, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Indu Verma, Joint Secretary, Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, Sabrella Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner, WGH, Leena Daring, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Tura Dr. Jakrambal Sangma and other dignitaries attended the function.

Earlier, during the function, District Nodal Officer, ATF, TCH cum Senior Psychiatrist Dr. Bollen Sangma highlighted the aims and objectives about the Addiction Treatment Facility and mentioned about the serious consequences of addiction for the person as well as his entire family and had to face legal complication and challenges at times. Therefore, the Addiction Treatment Facility is necessary, he said and added that the centre would provide much needed service to the substance dependent. He further mentioned that the ATF since its inception in December, 2021 has provided both clinical and counselling for cases dependent on various substances.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Jagdish Chelani along with the PMU Coordinator, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Indu Verma unveiled the Plaque during the function simultaneously along with the other States.
