Shillong, Feb 8: The United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) wants the KHADC to provide free registration of land of the villagers along the Meghalaya-Assam border for those who want to register their land with the council.
The UHM, on Thursday, sought clarification from the KHADC on the bill that was passed by the council for free registration of the land of the villages along the inter-state boundary between Meghalaya and Assam.
While speaking to reporters after meeting Deputy CEM, Pynshngain N Syiem, UHM president said that they were informed that the state government has resend the bill to the council to rectify the various deficiencies which they have detected.
“We have sought clarification on how long will it take to rectify the defects which are there in the bill and to again forward the same to the governor for his assent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rani informed that they have recently visited the border villages and found that Assam is registering land for free for those villagers who wanted to register their land with them.
“We would want the council to adopt the same policy to encourage people to come forward and register their land with them,” the UHM president said.
According to him, the Deputy CEM has assured that he will take up the matter with the executive committee if they can consider the proposal to register the land of the people residing in the border villages for free.
He said that they would like the present EC under the leadership of CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem to decide on the matter at the earliest.
