SHILLONG, Feb 20: The second phase of the boundary talks between Assam and Meghalaya to resolve difference in the remaining areas has definitely taken a backseat with the regional committees hardly meeting or visiting any disputed area in recent times.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is the Chairman of Ri-Bhoi regional committee on border, said that the chairmen of the border committees from Assam are not free when their Meghalaya counterparts are free and vice versa. “There is a little problem, but we will resolve it soon,” Tynsong said.
Phase 2 of the boundary talks had witnessed a thumping start but it has died down now. Moreover, as the talks hang fire, reports of confrontation along the border and the alleged highhandedness of Assam Police continue to emerge.
Reacting to a query on the alleged highhandedness of Assam Police, Tynsong said that the allegations need to be verified. The chief ministers of both the states discuss even smaller issues at least twice or thrice a week, he added.
