KIUG archery event kicks off in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 20: The fourth edition of the Khelo India University Games 2024 Archery Event which is hosted by Meghalaya commenced at the SAI Training Centre (STC), NEHU permanent campus on Tuesday.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Shakliar Warjri attended the commencement ceremony of the archery event.
A total number of 33 universities from across the country are taking part in this sporting event which will conclude on Saturday.
While speaking on the occasion, Warjri said that the Centre is organizing this kind of event with the aim to promote sports to a different level in the country as a whole.He further stated that there are around 200 universities who are taking part in this year’s Khelo India University Games.
The Sports and Youth Affairs informed that the Centre is trying its best to develop the best sports infrastructures to harness the potential of the talented youth in the various disciplines.According to him, the Meghalaya Government is also having the same goal like the Centre as promotion of the sports in the State by supporting the talented young athletes.
He said that the government would like to see athletes do well not only at the national level but even at the international events.
‘It will be a proud moment if some of the athletes who are taking part in this event will bring Olympic medals for the country in the future,” Sports and Youth Affairs Minister said.
Around 4,500 athletes from over 200 universities will compete among themselves in this mega sports event which will end on February 29.
The Khelo India University Games 2024 is jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ministry of DoNER and state governments of the different Northeastern States.
As the fourth edition of the Khelo India University Games 2024 unfolds with the spirited participation of 33 universities from across the nation, it symbolizes not only a celebration of athleticism but also a testament to the collective effort towards fostering a culture of sports excellence.
