SHILLONG, Feb 25: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has expressed disappointment with the content of the new textbooks introduced by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) from this academic session.
The MSSASA central body along with its East Khasi Hills unit is planning to meet Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma to flag their concerns about the new textbooks.
MSSASA East Khasi Hills unit president, W Kharkongor said the English textbook is not up to the mark since the grammar portion has been included along with the English reader.
“We had separate grammar textbooks. But now the new textbooks do not focus on learning of grammar which is the foundation of the English language,” Kharkongor said.
He said there are complaints from teachers and students about the old mathematics and science books being better than what has been prescribed.
He said they were assured that MBoSE will come up with textbook that will be as good as textbooks prescribed by the ICSE and the CBSE.
“But we are not happy with the sub-standard textbooks. We have been told that from 2025 no school will be allowed to use any book other than what has been prescribed by MBoSE,” Kharkongor said.
He also informed that they have been receiving complaints about most books being out of stock.
He made it clear that students should not be blamed if they fail to get hold of the new textbook.
He also asked MBoSE to ensure that any change in the textbooks should benefit the student community and not anyone else.
