SHILLONG, March 3: The state police have rubbished claims that HNLC cadre Storgy Lyngdoh, the personal security officer (PSO) of the outfit’s former vice chairman Sufiyan A Hazarika a.k.a. Manbhalang Jyrwa, had sneaked into the state from Bangladesh with the intention to surrender.
Lyngdoh was arrested from his residence at Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong on Saturday on charges of extortion through WhatsApp.
East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said if he had intended to surrender he would have come to the police.
A section of the local media had reported that the HNLC PSO had sneaked into Meghalaya owing to his deteriorating health.
According to the reports, he had dispatched his resignation letter to the outfit’s top brass on February 28 but there was no response.
Lyngdoh was part of the HNLC delegation that participated in the peace talks with the government.
