NONGPOH, March 7: In a major development, the KHADC has reinstated Wanphrang Syiem Nongshai as the full-fledged Sirdar of Elaka Nongpoh, ending a year-long dispute over the leadership of the traditional institution.
The KHADC issued an order on March 6, 2024, revoking the Sanad (certificate) granted to Pillarstone Syiem Nongshai, who had been acting as the Sirdar of Elaka Nongpoh since April 2023, following a no-confidence motion against Wanphrang Syiem Nongshai by some of the Myntri members.
The order, signed by the Deputy Secretary to the Executive Committee of the KHADC, stated that Pillarstone Syiem Nongshai was removed as per an order issued on April 4, 2024, and Wanphrang Syiem Nongshai was reinstated as the full-fledged Sirdar of Elaka Nongpoh as per the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headman) Act 1959.
The order also directed Pillarstone Syiem Nongshai to handover all the documents, money and properties of the Elaka Nongpoh to Wanphrang Syiem Nongshai without any delay.
