SHILLONG, March 17: The UDP is betting big on the support it enjoys at the grassroots level to win the Shillong seat. The party is confident that its support base combined with that of the HSPDP will ensure the victory of the RDA candidate, Robert June Kharjahrin.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh on Sunday said the party will join hands with the HSPDP and intensify its campaign in the days to come.
“We are ready to face the elections. Our advantage is that we (UDP and HSPDP) are together this time in the RDA and we have the organisational support at the grassroots level,” Mawthoh said.
Talking about the election schedule, he said, “We have to understand the time constraint and we have only a month to go. We will be making extra efforts to reach out to a larger number of voters.”
“The party functionaries have begun campaigning but we have to further intensify our efforts,” he added.
Mawthoh pointed out that the UDP leaders, including the MLAs, MDCs and organisational heads, have spread out to the nook and corners of Khasi and Jaintia Hills and meetings have been taking place simultaneously across several districts.
Speaking about the RDA candidate, Mawthoh said, “Our candidate is doing very well. His presentation is excellent and he is really connecting with the people. The combined efforts of the HSPDP and UDP will be a boost in our efforts in the election campaign.”
