Govt expenditure up three times due to digital transformation: CS

SHILLONG, March 18: Government expenditure has increased almost 3 times because of efficiency gain in internal processes, revealed Chief Secretary DP Wahlang,
In his keynote address during the ‘Digital India Northeast Regional Workshop’ at the State Convention Centre here on Monday, Wahlang said 4.35 lakh women are currently part of self help groups or SHGs, which was less than 60,000 earlier. Similarly, the state has connected 4.9 lakh households with functional tap water connections, which were all possible due to improved efficiencies through digital transformations.
The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Planning, Investment Promotion and Sustainable Development department of Meghalaya. The event witnessed the attendance of senior officials of MeitY, National e-Governance Division (NeGD), National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of DoNER and representatives from all Northeastern states.
The workshop was an awareness building initiative of IndEA (India Enterprise Architecture) and demonstration of first successful implementation of IndEA – Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA). Senior officials from Meghalaya government presented MeghEA and the success story of its implementation. Senior officials from MeitY appreciated and expressed great satisfaction that Meghalaya being a small state could implement a very cutting-edge technology solution, which several other Indian states could not.
The state government pointed out the efficiency gain through the digital transformation, wherein schemes are being sanctioned 36% faster than last year. Bills are getting prepared 120 times faster and disbursement is being made 14 times quicker, it said.
In his speech, Secretary of Ministry of Electronics and IT, S Krishnan, said that MeghEA is an inspiring example for the whole nation where technology led to reforms for the betterment of people. He also said that Meghalaya has indeed made the entire nation proud by winning the United Nations WSIS award.
Commissioner & Secretary Dr Vijay Kumar D, and Secretary o the Meghalaya government, Cyril Darlong Diengdoh, presented the eProposal System and Digital Service Platform, which is expected to soon go live, respectively.
