3 men arrested for assaulting shopkeeper
Bengaluru, March 18: Three men were arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting a shopkeeper over playing loud music during ‘Azaan’ (Islamic call to prayer) here, police said. The suspects are all aged between 20 and 25 years, they said. It is said that the assault took place over playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’. However, police said they did not find any substantial proof to support the accusation and the complaint did not mention it. According to the FIR, the fight was over “loud music”. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Siddannagalli in Cubbonpet area under the limits of Halasuru Gate police station. According to police, the shopkeeper played a song on high volume during the time of Azaan, which apparently irked the youth belonging to the minority community In the purported CCTV footage, which has gone viral a group of youth is confronting the shopkeeper over playing loud music. It led to a heated argument between them with one of them grabbing the shopkeeper’s collar. The victim tried to retaliate but they dragged the shopkeeper out of the shop and assaulted him. (PTI)
Man sentenced to 5 years RI
New Delhi, March 18: A court here has sentenced a 34-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing and criminally intimidating a minor on a social networking site. The court said it is the responsibility of society to protect children from exploitation by cyberstalkers, observing that the psychological scars of childhood sexual abuse deeply impact the lives of innocent children. Additional Sessions Judge Susheel Bala Dagar was hearing a case against convict Akhilesh Kumar who was booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court said it was proved that Kumar chatted with the minor, made sexually tinted remarks online despite the girl’s clear disinterest. (PTI)
