Skhemlang Suba strikes Gold for M’laya in 1500m event

Shillong, March 19: The Meghalaya team had a great start to the 3rd North East Games, held in Dimapur. The athletics team emerged with 4 medals on Day 1 of the meet.
Skhemlang Suba won an individual gold medal in the men 1500M event – the marquee middle-distance event. Suba, along with Kyrshananlang Shylla, Donbok Shabong, and Repol Dkhar also bagged the coveted gold medal in the 4X400M relay men event.
Meanwhile, Repol and Henry have earned their spots in the line-up for the men’s 100M final event.
The Meghalaya women athletes – Glorify Kurbah, Ritina Hanse, Rukini RT Dkhar, and InocensiaTympuin – also earned a podium finish in the women’s 4X400M relay event. Glorify also won an individual bronze medal in the women’s 1500M event.
To round up a good day of the athletics team, Kasanchi and Riyoka qualified for the women’s 100M final event.
The other medal winner for Meghalaya on the day was Yuvraj D Sangma, who won a bronze (Tungal) in Pencak Silat.
Meanwhile, the state’s table tennis teams, both men’s and women’s, have reached the semifinals.
Meghalaya also assured more medals as six boxers Sanjeev Maskut (48 kg), Ram Lyngdoh (60kg), Bhalang Shadap (67kg), Khrawbok Marwein (51 kg), Banjop Nongkhlaw (54kg), and Sunil Lambu (57 kg) have qualified for the semifinals.
In Basketball, . Meghalaya Women’s Team beat Assam by 66-36, while the Men’s Team got the better of Tripura with a score of 90-53
