Three detained in witchcraft assault case, released on bail

SHILLONG, March 19: Police have detained three persons on charges of inciting a mob that brutally assaulted two men over allegations of practicing witchcraft (Menshohnoh) at Mawthlong Mynsain under Sohiong police station on Saturday.
The three persons who were detained are Skerling pyrtuh (39), Traibor Lyngdoh (30) and Kyntiewnam Pyrtuh (28).
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi said the three persons were picked up from Mawthlong village on Monday night.
He said the three persons were released on bail after thorough interrogation on Tuesday afternoon.
It may be recalled that a mob of around 200-300 people had assaulted Shiningstar Lawrynniang (37) and Isohlong Kharthangmaw (20) over allegations that they were practicing witchcraft.
