BSF troops seize sugar, banned cough syrup

SHILLONG, March 20: Troops of Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on Tuesday thwarted smuggling attempts along the international border and seized Phensedyl cough syrup and sugar.
According to a statement here, troops of 4 Bn BSF Meghalaya, acting on a tip-off, seized 350 bottles of prohibited cough syrup Phensedyl, which was being smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border in West Jaintia Hills.
In similar operations, BSF personnel seized over 17,000 kg of sugar from different bordering districts of Meghalaya.
“The seized Phensedyl and sugar consignment were handed over to the local Customs office for further legal proceedings,” the statement said.
