SHILLONG, March 20: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured the High Court of Meghalaya that the Jowai-Ratacherra section of National Highway 6 will be repaired within a period of five to six months.
The NHAI made the assurance while filing a status report before the court during a hearing on a PIL on the matter recently.
According to the status report, the work in respect of the Jowai-Ratacherra section of NH-6, to the extent of 102.225 km, is being attended to and the work is being executed by —Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt Ltd and Dhar Constructions Company.
The NHAI also submitted that the work is going to commence to strengthen the road and rectify the potholes.
The counsel for the NHAI submitted that unless the stretch of the road is strengthened, it may create further damage to the road and the bridge, as referred to in an earlier status report dated February 26, 2024.
The NHAI also stated that while attending to the repair works, efforts will be made to ensure that no one is affected and that pipelines which are said to pose threat to the passengers and pedestrians will be attended to.
It also submitted that although it would take at least a year for the repair work to be carried out as mentioned in the previous status report, they will ensure that the work is completed within a period of five to six months.
The court directed the Registry to list the matter on August 27, 2024, in order to ascertain the progress of the repair work being undertaken by NHAI.
