SHILLONG, March 21: After the 3rd edition of Monolith Festival hosted recently, the KHADC is now keen on working with the Meghalaya government to make the festival bigger with the ambition of surpassing even the famous Hornbill Festival of Nagaland.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that the Monolith Festival has more potential than the Hornbill Festival.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) PN Syiem said that they can definitely make the festival a bigger affair, while reminiscing about the impressive footfall at the recently held Monolith Festival.
The deputy CEM also stated that the KHADC is not averse to the idea of working with the Meghalaya government in working towards the endeavours.
When asked, Syiem said that the KHADC does not yet have details about the total expenditure of the festival as the Meghalayan Age Limited had managed the event. The KHADC spent less than Rs 10 lakh for minor works in the festival, he said.
The 3rd Monolith Festival showcased the rich culture and heritage of the Khasi community insofar as the cuisine, customs, attire and local administration are concerned.
Since its inception in 2013, the last edition of the Monolith Festival was held in 2016. The KHADC now seems committed to make this event an annual affair.
