SHILLONG, March 31: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday lamented that regional parties have failed to win the Shillong parliamentary seat since the 2009 Lok Sabha polls due to lack of unity.
Addressing an election rally to drum up support for RDA candidate, Robertjune Kharjahrin at Patharkhmah, Lyngdoh said voters have also questioned the failure of the regional forces to put up a united front.
“People vote for the UDP and HSPDP in the Assembly polls. But when it comes to the Lok Sabha polls they opt for candidates from the national parties. Their argument is why they should vote for the regional parties who are fighting against each other,” Lyngdoh said, adding that the UDP and HSPDP have realised the importance of fighting the election together to have any chance of winning the Lok Sabha polls.
Meanwhile, former MDCs from Ri-Bhoi, Rona Khymdeit and Donbok Khymdeit (who is also a former MLA) will be joining the NPP on Friday.
The induction ceremony will be held at Nongpoh in the presence of State NPP president Prestone Tynsong and party’s Lok Sabha candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh.
Donbok Khymdeit had quit the UDP along with over 30 prominent leaders on Wednesday.
