SHILLONG, March 23: The Opposition Congress in Meghalaya has claimed that the decision of the BJP to support the NPP in the two parliamentary seats in the state will benefit the grand old party.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Saturday said the BJP’s decision will not benefit the NPP in any way.
“However, it will consolidate the votes in favour of the Congress. This decision also reaffirms the close connection between the NPP and BJP. People have seen it through,” Lyngdoh said.
He also stated that the political development only shows that BJP is not very confident about winning 400 seats and is offering the olive branch to every party.
“We have seen the Prime Minister going to South India since the BJP has failed to consolidate its position in the North. If they had consolidated their position in the North then why should they bother about the south? This only proves that the BJP is unsure about its trajectory,” Lyngdoh said.
“The opposition alliance will form the next government at the centre,” he said.
