NEHU faculty member files nomination for Lok Sabha polls
SHILLONG, March 26: Lakhon Kma, a faculty member of the Biochemistry department of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), on Tuesday filed his nomination to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Shillong constituency, while asserting that he is determined to work towards the uplift of youths.
Kma, while speaking to media persons after filing his nominations here, said that politicians in contemporary times, by and large, do not seem to be bothered about the sorry state of affairs of the people.
“Hence, I have come up with this determination that I stand for the poorest, I stand for the youth, I stand for the educated ones who are working day and night to make sure that they can get degrees, good higher grades. But after they get their degrees, where do they go? I see no scope whatsoever and that’s why I am in so much pain from inside as a teacher,” he said.
Pointing out that people want change, the independent candidate said he represents the true voice of the youths of Meghalaya. “I am thinking where will the youths get job in 5-10 years down the line? I am sure the same kind of concern is there among the parents,” Kma said, adding that his priority will be to discern ways and means to create employment opportunities in Meghalaya.
Referring to the Hindi language, he said the same could be used to earn livelihood.
Asking the youths to learn Hindi language, Kma said the potential of the same should be fully capitalised on.
