Disappointment over delayed cash awards

Shillong, March 27: The Meghalaya School of Martial Arts (MSMA) expressed their disappointment on Wednesday for being ignored by the Sports and Youth Affairs department, which has failed to release the cash awards to athletes who achieved medals in various competitions during 2022-2023.
While several athletes received their cash awards on National Sports Day, approximately 400 athletes are still awaiting their due rewards.The athletes awaiting their cash awards participated in disciplines such as Muaythai, Kickboxing, Arm Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, and others.
Speaking to reporters, a member of the MSMA, Pynshai Mawrie, conveyed that parents of these athletes now suspect that the delay stems from the state government’s side.“We are struggling to reassure parents due to the lack of response from the department. Without the cash awards, it will be incredibly challenging for athletes to sustain their participation,” Mawrie expressed.
