ED summons Mahua Moitra
New Delhi, March 27: The Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh summons to TMC leader Mahua Moitra and Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani for questioning in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case on March 28, official sources said on Wednesday. The TMC leader was called for questioning twice earlier by the central agency but she did not depose citing official work and sought deferment of the notice. Moitra and Hiranandani have been asked to appear for questioning at the ED office here on Thursday, the sources said. Hiranandani was also summoned by the agency in a separate FEMA case against his Mumbai-based realty group. Earlier, his father Niranjan Hiranandani had deposed before the ED in Mumbai. (PTI)
NIA gets new Director General
New Delhi, March 27: Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Sadanand Vasant Date, a 1990-batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), according to a Personnel Ministry order. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of date as the Director General (DG) of the NIA for a tenure up to his superannuation on December 31, 2026, stated the order dated March 26. He will succeed Dinkar Gupta, who is due to superannuate on March 31. (PTI)
6 Naxals killed in encounter
Bijapur, March 27: Six Naxalites, including “deputy commander” Punem Nagesh, his wife, and another female cadre, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, a police officer said. Many other Naxalites were believed to have been injured in the gunfight and a search operation was underway in the area, he said, adding that no security personnel was injured. The six slain Naxalites collectively carried a bounty of Rs 14 lakh on them, the officer said. (PTI)
