SGH police rescue another abductee

BAGHMARA, March 30: Following close on the heels of the rescue of a road construction worker just few days ago, South Garo Hills police have once again successfully rescued another abductee from a location near the village of Chokpot in the district.
On March 20, Akhilesh Chauhan was kidnapped by a gang of criminals and rescued two days later after which four of the members of the gang were apprehended.
Most of those arrested have direct links to now-defunct militant groups, though the mastermind in the case is still at large.
The second victim, Mominul Islam (19), was working on the construction of the Darjee College in the village of Daji Tesragre when he was abducted by a gang of criminals. The village falls close to Chokpot Police Station.
As per police reports, information about the abduction was received by the police at 3 am on March 28, following which a search and rescue operation was initiated.
At around 10 am on the same day, the victim was spotted and rescued by the police team near the Dendamgre forest area under the same Police Station.
While the rest of the gang members managed to escape the police, one of the members, identified as Tengsrang Ch Marak (30), a resident of Dakopgre, Tura, was apprehended.
In this connection, a case under has also been registered.
“A search operation to locate and arrest the other gang members is currently on,” informed SGH Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Bamaniya.
A police source informed that both the kidnappings could be the handiwork of the same group of criminals. It has also been informed that the search for those at large is being intensified by the SGH district police.
