SHILLONG, March 31: A day after NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma held a meeting with the State BJP in Shillong, the party leaders in the Garo Hills have made a demand for another coordination meeting between the two parties in Garo Hills.
“It is crucial to convince the BJP leaders of Garo Hills and we are anticipating a similar kind of meeting in Garo Hills between the leaders of the NPP and the BJP karyakartas,” a disgruntled BJP leader said on condition of anonymity.
According to the BJP leader, “If a meeting is not held in Garo Hills similar to the one in Shillong, it would amount to bias as has always been the case towards BJP in Garo Hills.”
Reminding that the BJP leaders in Garo Hills had earlier demanded for a reconciliation meeting between the BJP and the NPP to sort out their differences, the BJP leader said, “We are still waiting for the reconciliation meeting. If the meeting is held, we would know that the coalition is honoured in Garo Hills as much as it is Khasi Hills.”
Earlier, BJP leader from Garo Hills, Bernard N Marak had demanded that NPP chief Conrad Sangma and NPP candidate Agatha Sangma should initiate a reconciliation meeting with the BJP workers in Garo Hills to clear doubts and confusion over the party getting the support of the BJP.
“To get support on the ground, NPP should meet the grassroot workers of Garo Hills at the Tura Regional Office,” he had said.
