Minister’s son booked for assaulting couple
BHOPAL, March 31:A case has been registered against the son of a Madhya Pradesh minister for allegedly assaulting a restaurant owner and his wife, an official said on Sunday.In a related matter, four cops were suspended after the accused, Abhigyan Patel, alleged that he and his friends were manhandled by policemen.Abhigyan, aged around 30, is the son of Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Health Narendra Shivaji Patel.According to the police, Abhigyan, who was on a four-wheeler, had a tiff with a journalist riding a two-wheeler on Saturday. Abhigyan allegedly assaulted the journalist, prompting the owner of a nearby restaurant and his wife to intervene. Abhigyan allegedly thrashed them too, the official said.When the victims reached the Shahpura police station to file complaints, Abhigyan and his friends arrived there as well and allegedly kicked up a ruckus.Abhigyan even allegedly misbehaved with the police when they were sending the couple and the journalist for a medical examination, triggering a heated argument between the minister’s son and cops, the official said.The police registered a case against Abhigyan Acting on a counter-complaint by Abhigyan, the police have pressed similar charges against the restaurant owner and another person.The police official said four policemen were also suspended after Abhigyan and his friends accused the cops of manhandling them. 4 killed as storm wreaks havoc in WB’s Jalpaiguri
JALPAIGURI(WB), March 31: Four persons were killed and at least 70 people injured as a storm wreaked havoc in parts of Jalpaiguri district in northern West Bengal on Sunday, officials said.Several houses were damaged, trees uprooted and electric poles fell as strong winds devastated most parts of the district headquarters town and many areas of neighbouring Mainaguri, they said.Among the most affected areas were Rajarhat, Barnish, Bakali, Jorpakdi, Madhabdanga and Saptibari, they said.The deceased were identified as Dijendra Narayan Sarkar (52) of Senpara, Anima Burman (45) of Paharpur, Jagen Roy (72) of Putimari and Samar Roy (64) of Rajarhat, they added.“A rescue operation is underway,” a disaster management officer said.Dhupguri MLA Nirmal Chandra Roy told PTI that several people were admitted to hospital with injuries.Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said personnel of the civil administration, police and disaster management have been deployed for the relief works.Quick response teams (QRTs) have also been deployed, and the affected people were being shifted to safer places, she said. Four held with LSD blots worth Rs 22.80 lakh
NAVI MUMBAI, March 31: Four persons were arrested in Navi Mumbai allegedly with drugs worth Rs 22.80 lakh, a Anti Narcotics Cell official said on Sunday.They were held on a tip off, said Navi Mumbai unit ANC senior inspector Niraj Chowdhary.“The first accused was held on March 28 from Wahalgaon and we seized 50 LSD blots worth Rs 10 lakh from him. Three of his associates were held a day later with another 64 LSD blots valued ar Rs 12.80 lakh,” he said.Further probe is underway. (PTI)
