SHILLONG, March 31: Regional Democratic Alliance candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin on Sunday said the UDP is opposed to the Hindutva ideology which the BJP is propagating in Meghalaya and elsewhere in the country.
“We are opposing the attempt of the BJP to impose one religion and one language across the nation. We are also against their agenda to ban the consumption of beef,” Kharjahrin said while addressing an election rally at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills.
Opposing the move of the BJP-led NDA Government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he said the very concept of the UCC is to dilute and replace the tradition, culture, and prevailing norms of different communities with a uniform law.
According to Kharjahrin, UCC is a concept that will ultimately lead to one nation, one custom; one nation, one law; and one nation, one religion.
“The very concept of UCC is bad, unacceptable, and needs to be rejected,” the RDA common candidate said.
