SHILLONG, April 4: A total of 477 polling stations for Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya are considered as vulnerable, as per the data provided by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
Also, 29 out of 3512 polling stations in the state have been considered as “critical”.
In addition, there will 88 polling stations will be managed by women, 10 polling stations by persons with disabilities, and 37 by youth.
For two seats of Tura and Shillong, the total number of electors is 22,26,567 including 10,99,517 and 11,27,047 male and female voters respectively.
A total of 10,180 senior citizens and 11,720 differently abled persons will also exercise their franchise.
Altogether 6,106 voters have opted for home voting facility.
Govt declares holiday for Lok Sabha elections
The state government has declared holiday on April 19 on account of 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to a statement here, all state government offices and educational institutions have been directed to remain closed on the aforesaid date.
“Industrial undertaking or any of the establishment governed by NI Act, 1881, shops and those which work on shift basis, a daily wage, casual worker, including those working outside the constituency shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday as provided in Section 135(B) of The Representation of the People Act, 1951,” the statement said.
Daily seizures
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, has informed that in view of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming elections, seizures amounting to more than Rs 71 lakh were made across the state on Wednesday.
